On Thursday, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., took her unhinged impeachment rhetoric to a whole new level, suggesting that President Trump be exiled, since in her words, “impeachment isn’t enough.” Naturally, her rhetoric prompted supporters to up the ante, calling for Trump to be killed.
“Women are outraged and fed up with this President,” she said. “Impeachment isn’t enough. Should we explore exile?”

It seems that Waters was referring to tweets issued by President Trump attacking MSNBC propagandist Mika Brzezinski for her non-stop attacks against the president.
Naturally, her unhinged base supported the idea:
We are behind you

For what? Defeating Hillary Clinton? Sorry, that’s not against the law.
Then there was this:
A good ol fashioned hanging! Or, burn him at the stake. #DROPDEADTRUMP

Hanging? Burning at the stake? So much for that new tone and civility.
Public castration is more appropriate. If we can find a blade small and accurate enough.

Breitbart provided some background on the tweet that sparked outrage on the left:
The public spat between Trump and the Morning Joe hosts began on Thursday morning with the pair mocking the president’s healthcare agenda and a reportedly fake TIME magazine cover that was seen at Trump’s golf club.
Brzezinski doubled down, mocking the fake Time cover and President Trump is “lying every day and destroying the country.”
President Trump hit back Thursday morning, alleging on Twitter that Scarborough and Brzezinski had tried to enter his New Year’s Eve party at his Mar-a-lago club.
“Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!” President Trump wrote, insisting that he doesn’t watch their morning news program.
In a statement, MSNBC said: “It’s a sad day for America when the president spends his time bullying, lying and spewing petty personal attacks instead of doing his job.”
It’s actually a sad day when the so-called mainstream media spends all its time bullying, lying and spewing petty personal attacks against the president, his family — incuding his 11-year-old son — and those who voted for him — in what is clearly a deliberate effort to destroy the president.
First Lady Melania Trump’s office responded: “As the First Lady has stated publicly in the past, when her husband gets attacked, he will punch back 10 times harder.”
“The American people elected a fighter,” said deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Republicans on Capitol Hill scrambled to criticize and condemn Trump’s remarks, which was the starting point for the White House Press Corps as they pressed Sanders for the administration’s response.
Sanders defended the president’s tweets as a justified response to constant personal attacks against him from the media. “I think that the president has been attacked mercilessly on personal accounts by members on that program, and I think he’s been very clear that when he gets attacked, he’s going to hit back. I think the American people elected somebody who’s tough, who’s smart, and who’s a fighter. And that’s Donald Trump. And I don’t think that it’s a surprise to anybody that he fights fire with fire.”
She also criticized Morning Joe for “very deeply personal” attacks on White House staff, including herself.
Sanders also called out what she described as a double standard by the mainstream media:
“They do this day after day after day, and then the president responds and defends himself and everybody is appalled and blown away. Frankly, if this had happened in the previous administration — the type of attacks launched — on this program, the things they say, “Utterly stupid,” “Personality disorder,” “Mentally ill,” constant personal attacks … the rest of the media would have said, ‘Guys, no way. Hold on.’ But nobody does that.”
But Waters’ tweet and the calls to kill Trump that it inspired answers a question we put to her office in March. At that time, we asked:
- As you may know, there have been numerous reports of threats and actual violence directed at the president’s supporters (including children). Does the Congresswoman condemn those actions?
- There have been numerous threats directed at the president himself, some of which include threats and calls to assassinate him. Does the Congresswoman condemn those as well?
- Is the Congresswoman at all concerned that her rhetoric might encourage more of the type of attacks and threats we’ve seen since November, and will she publicly call for an end to those attacks/threats?
Waters refused to answer our inquiry, but it seems we now have our answer. Since Waters did not scold those who called for Trump’s death, it’s obvious she does not condemn threats to kill the president and she’s clearly not concerned that her rhetoric encourages violent attacks and threats.
