Anyone remember Jon Ossoff? In case you forgot, he’s the sleepy-eyed, under-fed, ex-Democratic Party wunderkind who was suppose to win Georgia’s 6th Congressional District seat just a few short months ago.
In spite of outspending his GOP competition by a factor of 6-1 ($24 million compared to a mere $4 million), Ossof ended up losing by nearly five percentage points to Republican Karen Handel.
With all that aside, keep in mind for the moment that Albert Einstein is credited with the observation “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”.
Now I welcome you to where stupidity and genius meet. Or maybe “violently crash into each other” is a better description.
Not The Onion…
As reported by the Washington Examiner, the Dems plan on headlining the tousle-haired Ossoff as one of the featured guests at a panel discussion on how Democrats can win congressional seats up for grab next year. Seriously, I’m not kidding
Jon Ossoff will be a panelist at Netroots Nation’s conference in Atlanta on Saturday speaking about how to win elections — even though he lost his race earlier this summer.
The progressive organization’s annual conference will feature Ossoff, the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District special election, and three others in a Saturday morning panel “Leaving it all on the Field: The Midterm Elections in the Resistance Era.”
OK, so the one guy who was suppose to be the face of the new and improved Democratic Party who lost the only election he ever participated in is suppose to teach starry-eyed Democrats in the larval stage how to be winners. That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but maybe the Dems will place on the panel some new faces with fresh ideas.
And then again, maybe not…
Daily Kos Political Director David Nir, Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee National Communications Director Carolyn Fiddler, a potential Democratic congressional candidate Lauren Underwood, and Ossoff will discuss how to win midterm elections.
They’ve got to be kidding; the Daily Kos and some chick from the DNC?
Oh well, if they want to commit political suicide, that’s their call.
But in all fairness, maybe that “potential candidate” cited above isn’t the same old, same old that the Jackass Party has been regurgitating up as of late.
As I did some research on Lauren Underwood, I uncovered some info that left me scratching my head as to what exactly are the Democrats thinking?
If she does decide to run, Nurse Underwood will attempt to unseat four-term GOP Congressman Randy Hultgren of the 14th Congressional District of Illinois.
In case you were wondering, the 14th is not just Republican red, but really Republican red.
Of Hultgren’s four elections to the House, the results are as follows;
- 2010 – Hultgren defeated Democratic incumbent Bill Foster 51%–45%
- 2012 – Hultgren wonlection, beating Democrat Dennis Anderson, 59%- 41%
- 2014 – Hultgren again defeated Anderson, 65%-35%
- 2016 – Hultgren defeated Democrat Jim Walz, 59%-41%
Other than taking a moment of introspection, the Democrats have predictably blamed someone else for their rejected message and crappy list of candidates;
Netroots Nation cited redistricting as a leading factor in Democrats’ electoral losses in recent years.
“Democrats have suffered severe losses in recent midterm elections. Because of redistricting, the 2010 elections devastated the party so badly that we have not yet been able to recover. And 2014 wasn’t much better,” the organization wrote in an online description of the event.
Didn’t they say that the last four special elections?
“But the party in control of the White House usually loses ground in the midterms — and because of Trump, progressives are more mobilized than they have been in a decade.”
The article went on to state;
Ossoff’s participation in the panel comes nearly two months after he lost a fierce fight for now-Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price’s seat.
However, Netroots Nation’s website does not list Ossoff’s biography on the event page, but does so for every other panelist.
When asked about the missing information, a spokesperson said they are “just a little backed up.”
OK, I’ll pitch in. What exactly is Ossoff’s political pedigree?
Ossoff spent a period of time as the foreign policy advisor to Georgia’s Rep. Hank Johnson.
Remember Johnson? He’s the yutz that said Guam would tip over and sink into the Pacific Ocean.
